How I Created My First Rice Garden – A Journey of rice garden

I never imagined myself growing rice. Like many, I thought rice only came from massive fields in faraway places—not something a regular person could grow in their garden. But during one lazy Sunday afternoon scrolling through YouTube gardening videos, I stumbled upon someone growing rice in buckets… and just like that, I was inspired.

The Curiosity That Sparked a Garden

It started as a simple “what if?” I live in a warm, humid climate, and after doing some research, I found that rice can grow in containers or small plots if you mimic the right conditions. I didn’t have a rice paddy, but I had some old plastic tubs, a patch of unused space in the corner of my backyard, and plenty of determination.

Getting Started – What I Used:

Containers: I used two large plastic tubs (the kind you’d store clothes in).

Soil: I mixed garden soil with a bit of clay-like mud. Rice loves water-retentive soil.

Rice Seeds: I used organic brown rice from a local store. I soaked it for 24 hours before planting.

Water: Lots of it. Rice loves wet feet.

The Process – A Labor of Love

I planted the sprouted seeds in the tubs and kept the soil consistently moist. At first, I was sure if anything would grow. But after a week or so, I saw tiny green shoots breaking through the soil—and that feeling was amazing. I may have done a happy dance in the yard. Okay, I definitely did.

As weeks passed, the shoots grew taller and stronger. I learned to keep a shallow layer of water in the tubs—around 2 inches deep. During hot days, I had to top it up more often. The entire process taught me patience, consistency, and trust in nature.

The Harvest – Small but Satisfying

About four months later, the stalks turned golden and heavy with tiny rice grains. I let them dry naturally before harvesting. The amount of rice I got would feed a family—but that wasn’t the point.

The joy of planting something, nurturing it, and finally holding the grains in my hand was more rewarding than I expected. It felt like holding a handful of golden achievement.

What I Learned from Growing Rice:

You don’t need a huge space—just the right setup.

Nature teaches you patience.

Even a small harvest can bring a big sense of fulfillment.

Anyone can grow rice—even in a city backyard.

Would I Do It Again?

Absolutely. In fact, I’m planning to scale it up a bit next season. I might even build a raised bed version of a mini rice paddy.

If you're considering trying it, do it. You don’t need to be an expert farmer. Just be curious, be willing to learn, and start small. Watching rice grow from seed to grain is a humbling and beautiful experience.

Something about it whispered enchantment—and that’s how my journey into the world of miniature fairy houses began. Step 1: Let Your Imagination  Before you grab any glue or twigs for creating fairy garden, close your eyes for a moment and picture it: What does your fairy house look like? Is it asthetic in a mushroom or hidden behind flowers? Mine? I imagined a cozy woodland home with a pinecone roof and a tiny stone path leading to the door.
